My wife has a 2009 AWD Traverse, and when we first got it the power steering whined slightly, and I had it back to the dealership to be checked to be bled (air), as our 2010 had a severa air+ps problem. Well, I rarely drive it, but we took it to Florida last week on vacation and it drove me NUTS.
The wheel may stiffen up if there is not enough hydraulic fluid within, which is a sign of a leak. Even turning it a few degrees to the left or right would require a lot of work. The power steering cannot pressurize sufficiently since there aren’t enough liquids to convey hydraulic pressure. 2.
Here is a picture of the before and after, with the old fluid being 16yrs old (with 90,000mi on it) The steering is noticeably smoother and since I was able to do the job myself, it only cost me around $10 (Honda would've charged $150).
